ground beef stroganoff

2 cups sliced mushrooms
2 tablespoons butter
1 pound lean ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup sour cream

to serve: thaw. Heat and stir until smooth and hot throughout. Thin with a little milk, if necessary. Serve over noodles. Serves 6
